That smart level torpedo 6-1/2 inch is only $139 online. You still have to pickup the robart bar but isnt to bad.
   
  I still use the Robart needle, just curious but has anyone ever put the digital Robart conversion up against the robart needle for comparison?
   
  I think the Robart needle is ok but a pain to use since you have to pay attention to the needle in case it sticks. 
   
  A side note you can pickup a piece of aluminium extrusion bar stock at the hardware store the same size as the Robart bar.

Can you wiggle the meter on the mounting bar or have they improved the
plastic to plastic fit as well.

Stuart, yours is definitely defective. I just did the same test with 
mine, and it outputs the same value regardless of how it approaches the 
final orientation.
