The new landing rule indicates "landing is not a centered manuever and
there is no downgrade for displacement to the left or right from center as
long as the landing is in the landing zone." It goes on to state " if the
touchdown is within the runway but not in the landing zone it should be
downgraded proportionate to the distance outside the landing zone." In my
opinion, relying on each judge to accurately guesstimate the distance
outside the landing zone's perpendicular lines which are 15 meters (50
feet) to the right and left of center (of pilot), then subtracting, say,
one-half point for each 1.5 meter infraction before scoring the maneuver,
is somewhat complicated.
