If making the poles removable with PVC recepticles... at the top of the receptical sleeve, use a threaded fitting so you can put a "clean out plug" in when the pole isn't in it. Keeps most of the stuff out so you don't have to scoop the thing out to get the pole in.

Yep.. slightly annoying to have to keep track of the plug... But it does let you get the pole out of the way of the mower.

  Subject: [NSRCA-discussion] Box poles

  Hey Guys,

I am looking for some ideas for setting up some permanent box poles. At our GA jets field, we have a tree line that is right at 150 meters from the runway. The club is going to let us put up some poles and leave them up since they will be in the tree line and not in the way. So, I just wanted some ideas as to how other people have done this.

We were thinking of digging some holes in the ground and placing some concrete and a large size PVC pipe in the ground to serve as a receptor for a slightly smaller pole. This should work well for 4 of the poles. The ones on the right side will be below a hill. So, they would either have to be attached up in tree, or we do a similar plan as before and make a really tall pole. How tall can these poles be without breaking in the wind?

I would appreciate any ideas or examples of how this was done at your field.

  Thanks,
  Emory Schroeter.
