Colin,
Are you having midrange issues? I use an "F" plug Cool Power 15% fuel. I have the pipe at 26" long and it could probably go a tad longer with the 18.1x10W APC prop. I have the low end as lean as I can get it and it performed flawless this past week end. This was in Lubbock at about 5500 ft alt. So I am not sure how it will be at 800ft. When I used the Mejlik 19x10 c.fiber prop the low end was near the one o'clock position and same with the Lockhart 15.75x10 3-b APC prop. I have found the more load on the engine the longer the pipe needs to be.
The 18" APC prop weights 2oz more then the Mejlik so I believe that has some effect on the needle settings. Try lengthening the pipe if the midrange loads up. Also if you bearing is going bad the midrange will be hard to set. So once you have the midrange set and all of a sudden it starts loading up, chances are the bearing is bad. If you can feel movement at the tips of the prop then the bearing is getting loose even though it does not feel rough. Of course make sure you have a good plug to start with.
Hope this helps.
Wayne

Do you have any fancy tricks to get the engine to run consistently and have good mid-range at that load, in-flight mixture, added head shims, two plug head...etc? How is it in windy conditions?
Colin.

Colin,
I have that setup on my new Symphony and speed control is very good. Make sure it is the 18.1 x10W APC. Mine turns about 7600 rpm on 15% Cool Power. Pipe is set at 26" from center of plug to the first baffle. I believe the baffle is 12" from the inlet of the pipe.
Good luck,

All/OS users
I'm still looking for the best compramise for speed control using the OS140/Aeroslave pipe and an "almost" wide body aircraft like the Temptation. Has anyone tried the new 18.1x10.1? How does it compare to the 18x10, 18x10pn, DL re-pitched 3 blades and the old 4 blades?
I would like to try a new (currently using 15x11x4) approach but would prefer not to buy 3 new props.
Colin.
