My thought when this was first posted was that he was using too much 
elevator during the snap.  Your response below confirms that.  IMO, the 
best control input for a snap is:

1(Break). Bang in lots of elevator, then switch to the next portion when 
it has visibly 'broken.'
2(Rotation). Full ailerons, moderate rudder, almost no elevator.  Go to 
neutrals when rotation is complete.

More elevator during a snap's rotation is more bad.  Elevator during a 
snap makes the plane's CofG move - this makes it look like a barrel 
roll, it makes the plane lose bunches of speed, and it makes it nearly 
impossible to exit the snap on proper pitch heading.

And if this doesn't work, remember that I last flew a pattern plane 
August 28, 2005, and will next fly one in about 4 weeks, so you should 
have never listened to me ;>
