Here's the solution I just used when threatened with Hurricane Katrina: 
  I jumped on an airplane and flew to Vancouver and British Columbia for 
a nine-day trip through the Canadian Rockies.  The folks up there have 
apparently never had a hurricane.  Nice places/nice people.
