Hello Gentlemen,
I'll very briefly chime in( short on time right now-but will follow later if any questions)
Down here we have flown "F" and the previous A, B etc on Sundays since their inception. It can be done. We have always held the belief that if we ( as a country) made it to the finals at a W/C then we would have a good chance of progressing even further due to our 'experience' flying "F". Well, we have had our a$$es kicked at every w/c, for various reasons. That is in no way meant to be insulting to our team members-or any other countries team-but the W/C contest really only begins in the finals. BUT you need to fly P well enough to get to F.
We in Australia are actually just now going down the path of ONLY flying P schedule at local contests. We will keep flying F for the main comps ( nats, Aus Masters etc). Now there are too many pro's and cons to quickly discuss and I believe Dave Lockhart summed it up quite well.
Flying F will at local contests will more than likely hurt the 'weekend warrior'. It will not benefit the top dawgs-they fly anything, anytime anyway-but if you only fly F at nats etc you will see them come out of the closet for the major comps now at least.
So if you want to keep the 'bread and butter' guy for the local scene, my advice is to stick to just flying P. Flying P and F has probably not helped the scene in Australia and it definitely has not helped at a worlds level.
But there are many more of you in the U.S. so it may work-try it, but don't be afraid to change it back quickly if needed.
For me personally, I'm now in a situation where I am in unfamiliar territory. I have just been selected for a team to go to New Zealand and hopefully kick some Kiwi butt...AND ...we have just killed off flying F locally. So now I will have to fly F anyway.Hmmmmmmmmm
Like I said-flying F or not will not make much difference to those that will have to fly it anyway. But it might scare away your bread and butter guy.
Sorry for the ramblings but I gotta go.......I'd be happy to answer any questions and hopefully be more coherent later..
best regards
Tom
