And yes, for those interested, Futaba also sells receivers on 50 and 53.
BTW - check out Gordon Anderson's (D8 VP) site for upgrading the old Ace
MicroPro (or most other brands) to a 1024 system, that will rival any
current system, except perhaps the T14MZ.  New life for those old Pro-lines
or Krafts!

That's interesting.  I've flown JR equipment exclusively on 53 and 50 
mhz (specifically 53.8 and Ch's 00, 02, & 04) since 1990 all over the 
country with NO hits or glitches.  Not one.  The equipment was a 
mixture of PPM and PCM (mostly the latter), and for the most part 
single conversion ABC&W receivers.  In that time I've lost three 
airplanes, none due to interference.  I lost one due to a bad rx 
battery, one due to a failed switch, and one due to plugging the 
aileron extension into the retract channel and vice versa (don't 
ask... it's a long story).

I switched based on the theory that the fewer people with radios on 
my frequency, the less likely someone could "turn on" and shoot me 
down.  So far, at least in the local club, it's worked (there is no 
one else on my frequency in our club of 100+).

Based on my experience you'd have a hard time convincing me to switch 
back to 72 mhz.
