9Z WC2 question

I seem to remember being told that you only have to flip the spring over to 
eliminate the ratcheting effect. Von Linsowe used to remove the ratchet from 
his 9Z's and I think he told me that's how he did it. I flew a few of his 
planes and remember that there was tension in the throttle stick but no 
ratchet. I think you control the amount of tension by slightly bending the 
spring. The task isn't for the faint of heart, however, because you have to 
unplug a bunch of ribbon connectors on the main circuit to remove it and get 
it out of the way first.
