MessageMike,
The gears and everything else has some dirt on it. Not filthy but there has been substantial wear due to debris getting into the gears and breaking a wire on one winding.

If the gears are clean use lithium White grease They sell this at Auto parts store in 4 oz tubes remember a little goes along way.

    Dave,
I have it re-assembled except for lubing the gears.
What grease should I use on the planetary gears ? The main shaft is steel but the planetary gears are nylon, epoxy or plastic.
    Thanks,
    Paul

You can also make a 'spanner' out of a flat tip screwdriver you don't care much about -- a little dremel work to take out the center of the blade and you're there...

I made my own wrench from a piece of .125" aluminum. A skinny set of needle nose pliers might also work. You will have some fun putting it back together - the brushes are spring loaded against the commutator and need to be "pinned" open via the pinholes in plastic case/housing on the back end of the body.
