Try disabling your McAfee and see if it works. Make sure you do it on a trusted website first.......Your own for instance.
I had a somewhat similar incident recently with the Spyware I use. I no longer use it now. I suppose it now has a compatability issue.

Ron, I have that "checked" on my OE Security tab, and open embedded links all the time...I think there's something else going on.

    Paul, try this
    1. In outlook express go to Tools, Then Options, then click on the security tab on top. Then make sure there is no check mark in the box for Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially contain a virus. Then click on Apply, then Ok. Hope this Helps, Ron Lawrence

      Hi all,

Sorry for the off topic question, but I am having a problem I thought someone here could help with. When reading e-mail in OE, I am unable to get to any links in the e-mails. If I go to IE I can go to the sites without any trouble. Any clues? I do have McAfee Internet Security Suite running, but have for over a month and this problem just started a day or two ago. Thanks in advance.

PS I use Cox high speed internet
