And the 3 year rules can be waived if you send your reasons why you want to CD to your AMA district vp, the NSRCA site has some insight and guide lines for CDing also.

See the AMA site for a CD application. You must be an AMA member for three years before applying. Then you need three CDs to sign it as references. Youll have no problem finding folks to sign off for you. Also, there is an open book test that must be completed. Its not hard. Its point is to force you to become familiar with all the rule books.

Forgive my ignorance, but what does it take to become a CD. If it's within my means I am not adverse to doing just that to help the hobby grow. Without getting fresh blood involved in any aspect of RC there can be no future.

Pete,
Do what I did, become a CD and put on your own contest. I will CD or CO-CD three this year. It is scary at first but after you do it, you find that it was no big deal. I have been a CD for 8 years now and I am having fun. So if you can't find a contest close, make one!!
See ya,
Bruce
