Norm,
you need to download the AMA contest Regulations and the rules are at your
hand. Each maneuver has a description of how its performed and the possible
defects a maneuver can be downgraded for.
To answer your questions.....the model takes off into the wind....turns down
wind not judged...flies to the downwind not judged...turns around not
judged...Then as the model comes back up wind it "enters the box" the old
interpretation was as the model passes over the downwind 60 deg marker its
"entering the box" the rules that in effect as of Jan 1 of this year are
that the model enters the box when the pilot calls it but at a minimum of
15m before the first pull up to start your Cuban 8.
Humpty bump with options is explain in the book but essentially the model
has 2 sets of options...Option #1 is the roll it can be a 1/2 roll or a 1/4
roll on the upline. If and only if the pilot chooses a 1/4 does the downline
contain a roll and it is a 1/4 roll to get the exit attitude (meaning
upright exit) If a 1/2 roll is chosen then no roll is allowed on the
downline. Option #2 is the 1/2 loop at the top of the Humpty Bump. This 1/2
loop can be inside (up elevator) or outside (down elevator). this sums up
the options on the Humpty
The inverted flight starts from upright and is defines a 1/2 roll hold
inverted for a specific period of time then 1/2 roll to upright. The entire
thing from the straight upright line before the 1/2 roll to the straight
upright line after the last 1/2 roll is judged as the Inverted flight.
One thing to remember is that the name of a maneuver doesn't take precedence
on what it is. The Descriptor in the rule book is the letter of the law.
Things like stall turns and others of this like are named rather than
describing the actual event. Nothing in description of a stall turn
(hammerhead for the IMAC in ya) says anything about the model being stalled.
In fact it doesn't stall at all. It never "departs" at least in the pitch or
roll axis....It does rotate rapidly 180 degs in the yaw axis but the rudder
is not stalled as you can control the pivot
That's the good news...The bad news is the AMA has not posted the new rule
book yet. We need to get on the stick here. Phx has a contest in just about
2.5 weeks that is based on this new rule boo for the AMA classes.
Glad to have you trying out Precision Aerobatics.
