fuel tank venting w/perry regulated pump

A couple of points on tank venting;

1. If you use a check-valve in the vent line it does, in my case, prevent fuel from pouring onto my helper as she tends to carry the plane slightly nose down.

2. It has a bad side effect in that if the tank gets heated up on a sunny day it forces fuel into the carb and it drips out onto the paint - not good!

What I have found to be most desirable is to put a filter in the vent line to prevent debris getting into the pumps.

The smartest venting I ever saw was Ken Velez who put the vent exit near the back of the pipe. It did two things. a) put the "undesirable" all in the same place, and b) prevents the fuel from leaking if you tip the plane forward because the exit is higher than the tank!.

Another really neat system is to have two vent lines ,where both lines go to the top of tank. Yes the top. This system did not need any fuel dots or T' etc. because you can fill the tank from either vent line. The tank is drained when the plane is disassembled inverted and the motor ran dry.

Regards,

Eric.

  I tried on one airplane using the open vent line and exiting behind the tank, then tried doing an around the world with the tubing before exiting. In both cases I had a mess on the fuse and subfin and was using lots of fuel. Nat

    Nat,
    With you and Bob P. using the check valve, I'm thinking that is the way I should be doing mine.
    It's an easy addition.

      Ron I put a one way valve in the line, with a T in it,. Plug the T when thru fueling. Nat

        i just installed a perry pump and the instructions say not to use muffler pressure to the tank. my question is, how do i vent the tank properly so i don't create a siphon from the vent line?
