Right about the vent. I had a 5.8 gas that surged like crazy inside the cowl. Take the cowl off and it would run smooth.   I soldered a tube to the reference hole and ran a line inside  the fuse where I could get calm air reference and that solved the problem. The impacted air pressure in the cowl was surging. 
The Cline reminds me of a walbro carb pump(reg).
