A Mount is NOT a Mount

I have (2) identically prepared Focus airplanes by Dave Guerin. Dave used the the VibraDamp 4/c isolators (#ISO4-1100) and hardware with the standard rails which are too short replaced with custom aluminum rails made by my fellow pattern friend Claude Weimer. A Gator nose ring is used also. As you may know, the Focus has a 1/8" plywood engine support structure which benefits from reinforcing using carbon fiber mat.
Family opportunities, have limited my flying time so one plane has only 125 - 150 flights and the other one has 40 or so. I fly FAI. The set-up is not as clean as a Hyde mount but was the best solution a few years ago.
As a side note, I purchased new Focus II wings, stabs, fins, rudders, carbon gears, PBG wing tubes, NMP batteries, NMP headers and have reduced the weight over 14 ounces over the Focus I components! I will be using Webra 1.60 with MC carbs with the aforementioned mount system.

Interesting! Thanks, Rusty. I assume you're using one, then? Can you estimate how many flights you have, what kind of maintenance has been needed, whether or not you have a nose ring, etc? Would appreciate a view from a successful user.

It is my understanding that the VonLinsowe's actually "sold" their various product designs in 1997 to the Brown's. Properly installed, the Brown mounts are very reliable and effective for use with the Webra 1.45's...

Many of you may know this, but here's a heads up....I purchased a Dave Brown "Sport Rail" mount (you know, the knockoff of VonLinsowe's, which was the knockoff of MK's)....anyway, lots of nicely-machined parts, bolts, blind nuts, very complete....
But the cushions were so soft, I wouldn't have run this on a .40 size motor...and I got the "4 cycle" version...
So...lesson learned, it's back to the MK from Gator, with the "High Isolation" cushions. I'll let ya'll know how THAT works...
