How about Spar Urethane? I used this on a starter battery holder and it looks good and has held up well with no yellowing. I havent spilled much fuel on it but I think it should be durable since its polyurethane.

Years ago I built a field box and it has lasted fairly well. I brushed on a run-of-the-mill sanding sealer (no stain) on the wood to get it smooth. Then I sprayed a couple of coats of clear Formula U (spray can, from the hobby shop). I guess it is about 15 years old and still looks good. I have been pretty careful not to get fuel on it, though. And, it has not been used for a few years now. :-( I hope to change that soon. :-)

Hi all,
I'm getting ready to apply a finish to a new field box this evening, but
I'm really coming up with lots of conflicting information on what I can
use for a durable fuel proof finish. I am looking for a brushable,
clear, high gloss, UV resistant (non-yellowing) finish to show off the
wood. I'd like to avoid a two part finishing resin / epoxy if I can
since I only need maybe a pint and don't have any other uses for it.
What have you used (not heard about) that has worked?
Thanks!
By the way, the field box this one is replacing is 20+ years old - and
despite several attempts over the years that finish is still not fuel
proof so I really want to do it right this time as the box will likely
be around a while...
