I have found that once you activate the throttle cut and move the stick to low throttle position it will not advance. I thought I had a bad throttle servo but once the cut was turned off the throttle works normally. I think this must be some kind of safety device.

Can you elaborate on the "Be sure to have the throttle at Idle before Switching on"?
After using mine for a couple days, I started having problems with the throttle. After dealing with all the trials and tribulations of trying to figure where the problem lies, I finally figured out that the receiver was going into lockout on the throttle channel. During the switching receiver on process, I noticed that the plane "appeared" to turn on, but until I moved the throttle stick, nothing else would work. I placed the old R149DP receiver back in, Switched to 1024, and everything worked like it should. I bought a new receiver and will get to check it out early next week.
I'd be pleased to hear any and all that others have found to be different or just weird about the dealings with this new radio.
