I prefer to stand quite close behind the judges. 
This eliminates (almost) the NO's and seems to reduce the parallax down
the box lines.

Absolutely - but not often the case! AMA rules state "not more than 10 
meters (32+ feet), FAI rules state "not less than 7 meters (23 feet) ,
nor 
more than 10 meters. Rarely are judges anywhere near the FAI minimum at 
local meets or the Nats. A significant part of the judges view of center

maneuvers is usually blocked by the caller / pilot.

The set-up at the Nats on Site 3 Monday had the judges within 4 feet of
the 
apex of the box lines - I observed that most pilots were standing nearly
10 
feet in front of the box apex. Neither the pilots nor the judges seemed
to 
notice. This was corrected before the afternoon session by the site crew
- 
seems that the AMA set-up guys just put the shade at the box apex and it

slipped by.

For the FAI finals at Site 1 we still moved the judges line rearward
about 
10 feet just to meet the minimum. At this distance the caller / pilots
did 
not block the judges view. Communication between caller / pilot was 
inaudible to the judges (and, presumably, the judges callers in the
unknowns 
were inaudible to them) also.

Maybe we could at least do better at the Nats if someone was assigned to

ensure that the set-up was correct (and / or reasonable).
