Icepoint Mount Mod

The Focus needs either a Hyde Type A, or the Budd with a nose ring. I modified the Arresti's last year (two of them) with mounts for a nose ring that basically was a series of spruce longerons anchored at angles from the edges of the firewall, epoxied to a ply 'plate' just a bit larger than the nosering. Have photos if interested. It was a pain in the b*&# also, but worked.
I agree with Bill - the Budd needs to have a nose ring, and you have to be willing to put one in, just like the Hyde AR mount.
This conversion I've done works, and ultimately will be worth it (to me, anyway)

I haven't seen any indication that Jerry makes such an animal. And, while I appreciate what Bob is doing with his Icepoint, I don't believe the Focus would lend itself to such treatment. So, until I do something else as far as airplanes go, it looks as if I'll be holding the Budd mount until needed for a stiff-nose project.
BTW: Just got my Technician class license again; should be on the FCC web site before too many more days. Don't know if they are going to give me my old license back, (N7WWS) or a new one for back here in 4 land. We'll see. And, I'm going to start studying for my general class before too long.

Bill,
I have the same question. I bought the Hyde mount with the integral nose ring for my Focus II. I have not seen the Jerry Budd mount and was wondering if he also makes a similar mount with an integral nose ring. >From your e-mail below it sounds like there isn't one available from Jerry Budd.

I see the problem with the Icepoint. Can sure be frustrating. I've also been wondering:
I just got a new Jerry Budd engine mount. Excellent job, well thought out. Jerry, however, calls for a nose ring with the mount. How are the guys handling a nose ring with a removable cowling, like the Focus? Seems to me as if the cowl would tear loose from the fuselage if subjected to the stress/vibration of a nose ring. I've had perfect satisfaction from a Dave Brown solid mount, (cost the princely sum of $6) on my focus 1, but I've still been thinking of retrofitting my Focus 2 before it's first flight.
How would you handle it?

In case there are any of you like me, who aren't at a contest (and should be), and aren't flying (because we have nothing ready).... here's the tale of tribulation on how much fun it is to retrofit a flat firewall that is spaced way farther than it should be....
