14MZ Problem

Just to try something -- guess the password again, but leave off the last
character. At work, we once struggled with the same problem, but with a PC.
It turned out that the BIOS would accept an 8 character password, but only
remember the first 7 characters. When we typed the 8 character password, it
always failed, even though we had the first 7 correct. This unknown BIOS
feature had us thinking we had forgot the password, which we really had not.

Subject: 14MZ Problem
Bound to happen - was at the field Saturday, and my buddy was showing off
his brand new (less that 18 hrs old) 14MZ. Next day he was out again, with
a long look on his face. This VERY experienced computer programmer/support
person had password protected both his name and the program parameters.
And, yep, you guessed it, the next morning the password he thought it was
wouldn't work. Now he's locked out of his radio. Went through 2 battery
recharges trying to guess.
Other than send it back to Futaba for a reset, anyone figured out how to
override/restore to defaults?
