Chuck, I have a Widebody 60 with a YS110. About 100 flights.
It's a loooong build, but an ARC is offered.
It's light, (mine is 7 1/2 lb) looks like a pattern plane, and according to friends who have flown it, "it flys like a pattern plane".
The only down side is the cost..it's expensive for that size plane.
Search 'camodles" or "planesplus"

Chuck you are correct that the Swallow is a very good flying plane as the fuse has been fixed (glass overlay at wing) but the Lark hasn't one of the guys at the field had one and it flew very well but 3 landings and 3 broken fuses, the biggest disadvantage to these 2 planes and some others is the cheap covering that is used.
The Excelleron 90 flys very well also but then haven't seen the 50 so it may or may not be as good as the 90.
Paul if you like to build the CA Wideboby 40 would good if you don't the Venus flys great, but if you want something that will fly better go with the 90 sized planes the difference is huge when you move up in size, in 60-90 size ARF the Excelleron because of the covering only, the Swallow for the price, if you like to build the CA Epsilon or Widebody 60, all these would need a 90 or bigger engine almost all ARF's are built heavy by at least a little, thats why I like to build you know whats there and is generally lighter, What ever your choice have fun though the winter.

Hey Paul! I would suggest the Lark from Giant Scale planes. It is the
little brother to the Swallow (which I flew this year). Check it out and
very reasonably priced ARF 160 I think.

I am contemplating getting a knock around plane that I can use for
sport but still practice Intermediate.
Any ideas.
Thanks,
Paul
