Lithium-Ion chargers (Somewhat off subject)

As am trying to regain control of my office; I ran across a lithium-ion charger for cell-phones we have discontinued using.
So we have a number of these laying around(mini boat anchors).  Since I am ignorant on battery stuff--could these be converted for our use on li-pos(5.9v at 400 ma)? Or is the charging circuit protection in the phones?  Just curious.(and cheap)
