I'm with Matt, here.
What would be an excellent science project, for a youngster with the county science fair facing him or her is to inventory all of the wondrous and exotic materials and composites that made Space Ship One possible, and then figure out which "horribly expensive" NASA project was responsible for its invention.

Putting a man is Space, in a ballistic arc is one thing. Putting a man in Earth orbit, quite another. NASA put Alan Shepard in Space about 44 years ago for a moderate cost. If you are 50 or older, the rest of the story you probably saw live and not always in living color.

Our money has been well spent. We benefit every day from that investment.

Well theres a second private citizen astronaut now. Pretty wild to think that someone reaches space in a composite aircraft and reenters without requiring heatshielding.

How many billions has nasa spent and didnt come up with something this simple?
