Measuring Surface Flatness (was "Cabinet Grade Particle Board")

A common fluorescent light has an extremely precise surface straight
surface, something like a couple of ten-thousandths of an inch.  Just
roll it along the surface of the table and check for light between the
bulb and the table, or try to slip a sheet of paper through.

I was surprised to discover that my 6' aluminum "straight edge" wasn't
precisely straight!
