April K Factor mailing from the publisher

I am aware of the frustration level of the membership on the tardiness
of the K Factor and I am frustrated as well. The April issue was mailed
on Friday the 30th of April which means it did not go out the post
office door until Monday May 3rd at the earliest. More on this tardiness
later.

The post office is supposed to deliver bulk mail within 6 days of
receipt. I have just had an email forwarded to me by Chris Larson that
states that he received his on the 22nd of May. That is 3 weeks of
delivery time. I find that unacceptable yet I understand fully why this
can happen.

Postal carriers are allowed to deliver bulk mail at their discretion so
I am told. Many postal carriers will back up the bulk mail and leave it
for their substitutes if they have a vacation coming up soon. Some just
back it up and deliver en mass at their discretion. I have also heard
that sometimes bulk mail gets backed up in hubs when a hub falls behind
in processing. I will talk to the post office about this, yet I am sure
that not much could be done by doing so. The April issue seems to have
the worst delivery record yet, let's hope it is not going to be an
ongoing process.

The tardiness of my delivery to the post office is a multi faceted
problem that is being worked on with limited success so far. At current
we are nearly 30 days behind schedule with the K Factor. Even with a
successful push forward we cannot push the issue ahead more than a week
at any given month. This is due to advertisers complain if two issues
come out too close together. The past two months I have tried to push
this week ahead and had something come up interrupting this process. It
will be worked on again this month.

This is why it is important for people to have their articles and
materials in by the 15th of the month. It would also help us if they
arrived even earlier than that. Everyday something is late it pushes the
whole process one day later. Start working July articles now and get
them off to Derek so he can facilitate a quick turnaround to me. If his
process can get a week ahead it will help my process. Don't get me wrong
here, Derek is doing a great job. I have even contemplated moving the
date of the 15th ahead a week to help facilitate a quicker turnaround.

I also wish to state that I would like to see more "how to" material in
the K Factor. If you have a neat idea or know of something you can share
with others about pattern, please put it in words and get it off to
Derek. It doesn't matter if it is a paragraph or multiple pages. I very
much would like to make this an informative venue for the NSRCA.

Questions can be directed to me if you so choose at my address below. I
will be on the mail list for roughly 2 weeks to continue to monitor what
is going on with this issue. I will most likely have to remove myself
from the mail list once again though due to the unbelievable amounts of
spam my business is receiving. Unfortunately my business receives email
from people I have never heard of before so I cannot automatically
filter spam, I have to do them all by hand. The mail list just increases
that load unfortunately. Do feel free to add my address to your address
book for future contact if needed.

Sincerely,
John Avery
