For some unknown quark my article didn't get into the Kfactor this month so here it is, Mike

Here is a article written by Mike Mueller for the Kfactor. Mike is currently AVP for District 5.

Hi I'm Mike Mueller from frigid Chicago. Let me start by saying that most of you probably don't know me but if you read Maureen's NSRCA history report you would see that I was the President of this organization in the late 70's. I'm estimating that this is the 1st article I've written for the Kfactor in 25 years. At that time I was actually a pretty decent flyer and very passionate about pattern, but life changed (in a nice way) and it wasn't possible to be involved and I quit RC sometime in 1979. I was pretty content with that decision for a long time and in fact I lost touch with the sport completely for the better part of 20 years. Around 3 years ago my old pattern buddy Mickey Losardo who I hadn't even talked to for 10 years found my phone # and asked me to meet him at the flying field. When I arrived, which was the 1st time I had seen a pattern plane in over 10 years I found myself fascinated with it all over again. The bug never really left me and I'm enjoying the sport today
even more than when I was a kid. Now I know what Al Pacino was saying in Godfather 3.

All that preliminary stuff aside Dan asked me to represent the districts northern contingency. I accepted so here I am. I think that pattern is pretty strong in the Chicago area at this time. We have around 25 guys here, around 6 or so in Wisconsin and good old Tom the lone representative from Minnesota. Our contests usually have around 30 competitors so that's not too bad. What we really need around here is a couple of new contest dates. We've lost a couple thru attrition and we need to replace them. If anyone thinks they could step up and get us a site please call me and I'll see what I can do to assist. I would also like a site to put on a 1-day pattern primer to help attract new blood.

The club I fly for has at least 15 to 20 guys active Pattern flyers and our practice sessions on Saturday and Sunday afternoons on non-contest weekends are sometimes better than going to a contest. If you would like to join us we would be more than happy to have you. Please note that we are kind of crazy, so bring a sense of humor with you. We also meet at Mickey's for lunch during the off-season to learn building techniques from the master.

Happy Flying
