o.s. 160 question

Tim,

There are many setups out there.........this is mine.

I am running the OS in intermediate as well. I used the iron bay with some
success, until it locked open during a sequence, flooding out the motor. My
setup with the regulator and greve pipe always ran rich in the midrange. It
got better when I lengthened the pipe, but not perfect. With that setup it
flew the outside loop o.k., but I always throttled up just before the very
bottom of the loop. As it would come up through mid range, a bit of smoke,
maybe a cough, and away we go.

I just flew it today with a perry pump in place of the regulator and after
setting the high and low needles, I can say that it ran noticably better,
even in the outside loop. I think the kline is good, but I now feel the
perry is better....and more reliable...no diaphram.

I have also met someone recently (pattern meet) who machined a second glow
plug into the 160 head. He runs an A3 and a #8. He is using the perry pump
and greve pipe. His midrange is very, very good with two plugs. He claims
a lower idle in downlines with no revving on exit. He uses two head shims
as well. In texas, the low altitude, and ambient conditions nearly require
an extra head shim. I've noticed mine just barely detonating, so I plan to
order a couple for myself. After the next pattern meet, I may experiment
with two plugs (fortunately I have access to machining equipment).

We have another guy here in district 6 who has wonderful success using a
bladder tank with no pump or regulator. His name is Art Wagner. He flys
FAI with a 160 powered Hydeaway. He is not web enabled, so I'm not sure how
to detail his setup. Although, if you get the latest K-Factor, he is the
gentleman in the district 6 report who explains how to successfully paint
with lusterkote.

Hope this helps,

Mark

Subject: o.s. 160 question

I have an os 160 that wants to consistently die in the out side loop in the
intermediate pattern. It runs great everywhere else but when I give
throttle to complete the back half of the loop it wants to die. If I
throttle back it will stay running and then I can complete it pattern but it
makes my loop look bad. I am running magnum 1 and have a iron bay regulator
and os type f glow plug. Any suggestions for fixes? Thanks, Tim
