Artistic Aerobatics suggestions

Unless you figure out a way to get scantily clad chicks to a pattern meet. . . attendance ain't gonna change much. . . .

Maybe instead of the top manufacturers sponsoring pilots, they would get more mileage by hiring local female models to show up to pattern events in cutoff t-shirts and short-shorts to walk around giving out glow plugs. . . .

It works at automobile shows!!!

  Dave:
While the TOC drew large crowds, the attendees were still model airplane enthusiasts. Point being, that even "The Greatest Modeling Show On Earth"<G> didn't attract large numbers of pure laymen. Some, yes; big numbers, no. And, having been associated with a truly large, well publicized contest in 1960 in Miami that DID draw huge numbers of spectators, (literally thousands of spectators, pictures on the front page of the Miami Herald, B & W TV time, etc.) still and all, did modeling advance because of this? I fail to see how, if it did.
My feeling is that recruitment will not be coming from the public ranks, but from interested modelers.

So, for now, I feel that the sport would be best served by satisfying the folks that are in it presently, and try to turn them into "recruiters" of additional folks from the local model field, who are already interested enough to watch pattern folks fly. Takes work? Yes. Doable? Also yes.
And, I'll also say, with a tip of the hat to Dave Lockhart, that the newer pattern ARF's of reasonable price, will go a long way toward advancing this sport.

I agree with the below...I think the AA idea is silly anyway as well as having an announcer for the 'spectators'.

These contests are not TOC type events that draw crowds from all over, these contests are local and interest in them will probably be limited as far as 'spectators' are concerned.

less pattern contest events and split dedication because of a new "group" is one of the reasons why I agree that we should not move to quickly into Artistic Aerobatics if at all?

I am also terribly against trying to have a freestyle, AA portion Sunday afternoon. Here is my reasoning.

      1) Many contests we attend don't fly all 6 rounds as it is(this really upsets me even though I have driven a distance. Stay till 3 and finish the whole thing is my idea, but many differ.)

      2) To add AA would only either extend the time people were there and still not finishing the pattern contests, or end up loosing more pattern contest for something new and different.
