Bob Jones, a New Jersey pattern oldtimer , invented this almost 30 years ago now, as a means to quickly snap on or off his one piece wing of the day . The principle is the same.
It was clean and simple method of attaching the wing without "screwy bolts or gummy rubber bands" as Bob used to say. He eventually had the spring loaded devices made from aluminum; very robust and functional and I used the concept in many applications. At his first Toledo show, Bob had a package of these "lifted" from his table by another prominent pattern flier of the day, who eventually went on to become AMA pres. Who would have thunk it. FWIW to ya

What somebody needs to design is spring loaded clip thats like a dowel
with tapered "wings" that's permanently glued to the wing panel and
squeezes and "pops" open when inserted through the fuselage sides.
Then you have to squeeze it to release the wing to go home. That way
if there is no gap between the wing and fuse, you know its clipped on.
plus there's no extra hardware to keep track of. I'll let any body
build and sell these for a slight royalty!
