Rich,
Unfortunately, this is where CRS disease comes in--I'll be darned if I can remember. Seems like we got the back plates one place and the mounts another(this was the '80s). All the Lord mounts are, are rubber isolators of varying durometers with a stud on one side and a plate to accept a screw on the other all molded in--I think Dave Brown(or someone) uses them on the pipe mounts. Again, it seems like Sullivan bought the rights to the back plate mounting--But there's really no reason you couldn't use the standard mounts with them and a nose ring. As I think about it with the larger fuses, there would be adequate space to spread them out to eliminate the nose ring altogether as we did back then. The engine DID move around a bit--but didn't seem to affect it in the air--or there is the VERY strong possibility I wasn't good enough to notice..... Seems like they were a teensy bit tricky when installing the firewall. I've still got one of Frack's IVs, a Summit 3, and a Goldberg Ultimate with that set-up with no nose rings;all piped OS REs or Hannos and they are all still quiet, solid airplanes.

Hi Richard,
Would you let me know where you bought the Lord mounts?
Thanks, Rich

I'm currently running ho'made Hyde mounts. I used to run (4) Lord mounts on an oversized back-plate and no nose ring on my 60 sized stuff--and liked them very much. Very clean. Does anyone still make them for the bigger stuff? I haven't looked into it lately. Didn't Sullivan buy the rights? CRS disease. In a couple of cases when we first got in to soft mounting, I was able to do a straight addition of Lord mounts to the back of my regular, hard mount and re-drill and tap new engine mount holes further back in the mount. Worked fine if you had the engine originally mounted on the front of the mount. I think some guys used (3) Lord mounts with a nose ring and (4) without. The nice thing about those is there isn't ever a direct connection to the airframe. Man, I DO need to look in to these again!

Vincente,
Which Hyde mount should I use, and do you know where I can order a Mueller header? At this point I am inclined to go with a OS 160 because I can buy the engine, pipe, header and half the mount for the same money as an OS 140. I think the weight penalty will be 4 - 6 oz but with the power loading I don't think it will matter al that much. What do you think?
Thanks, Rich

Yes, in the pattern community Hyde mounts could be considered the best option. My personal recommendation is: do NOT hard mount the engine. There are other options there, but the Hyde mount could be the best option for your particular situation. Note: I am not sponsored by Mr. Hyde.

Guys,
Please let me know how you are mounting this engine. I assume most are using Hyde mounts, please let me know which one. Is anyone hard mounting the engine? Anyone using any home made mounts?
Thanks, Rich
