Steve,
I also have that same plane. Levi at 3D foamy told me the other day that he has added some instructions in the new kits on how he sets up right thrust. Im not sure in degrees but I shimmed up for about 3/32"-1/8" of right thrust. I didnt setup any downthrust at all and I cant tell a difference. The Axi 2212/34 is a great motor for that plane but you will have to do a little modification to get it mounted. Im pretty sure Levi has a premade adaptor for the rear mount motors but you should be able to build one pretty easily. The Ikarus shock flier advertisement at hobby lobby has a good pictoral on how to build and setup for the axi motor, heres the link.

Mike,

I am building a 3Dfoamy Extra 300XL and will be using an AXI2212/34 motor and a APC 11x3.8 prop. Do you have any recommendations on how much right and down thrust I should use?

Thanks,

Steve

Mike, a friend of mine in Oregon designed the plane and he sells the plans in PDF online at:

Honestly you'll be floored by how crazy and yet stable this on flys. You can follow the thread at:

Where did you get the plans for the Flip 3D? I really like the look and size of it.

Hey Chuck,
Dang I hate that the Extra didnt work out but I knew for a 100CC class 3D plane you were headed for about $3500. It'll happen when the time is right..

Im glad to see you have made it into the foamie thing as well. They are just entirely too much fun. I have the 3dfoamy.com extra and edge. Im flying the Razor 400 w/ 6.6:1 gearbox and 1320mah Thunder Power batteries. It has awesome power for pullout but will fly really stable at low speeds. Im weighing in at just over 14oz. Its given me confidence to hover and torque roll as low as I dare, that allows me to see what the thing is doing. So far I can hover forever and if there is no wind and if I get in a groove I can get a stable torque roll with my edge for a good while, I cant do that with my U CAN DO not nearly as stable. The most difficult thing for me is rolling harrier circles. I can do the 1st 3/4 of the circle but when it rounds the corner and is coming at me I chicken out. lol. The other day Larry Mercer and I were flying ours and he said "whats that thing you guys do when you roll with the nose up?" I said a rolling harrier circle, he said "oh yeah" and swung out there and
did a perfect RHS about 20' in diameter and 20' off the ground on the 1st try! He is such a good pilot. Pissed me off, hehehe not really.

Heres a link to a thread at RCU where I posted some pics of my plane..

Mike: I never did get my extra fully put together… just too much money involved so I traded it for a Hangar 9 Taylorcraft and some cash.

THEN…. I built a 28 inch wingspan foamie and am having a blast with it, although I think I could make the wings a bit wider (span) because on high angle of attack slow flight it rocks A LOT from side to side. I am currently gluing together a 60 inch IMAC legal Ultimate blue foam J WOOWOO!! When I finish I will send you pics and maybe video of all

Talk to you again soon.
