How thick is a mil.?

Hey Matt I'm looking for ultra thin sign vinyl to apply over Depron. It's used on flat foamies. I've been able to locate 1.5 mil film on the internet. Weight is a huge consideration here. The vinyl looks nice and it adds strength to the structure. Here's a pic of my friends Flip 3D foamie with greay depron and ultra thin vinyl.

A "mil" is 1/1000 inches, one one thousandth of an inch. There are 1000 mils in an inch.

Pappas is right about the light duty trash bag, except even these are around 1 1/2 mils thick. Monokote is around 2 1/2 mils thick and ultrakote around 3 mils thick

You have got me wondering why you need 1 mil thick pvc film? That's very unusual
material . What's the application

I think the mil you refer to is one milli-inch. That even sounds right: it's about the same as a very light duty plastic trash bag.

Ok I took out the metric converter and I think I have the math right.
Could one of you smart dudes check this?
A micron is 1000th of a millimeter, correct?
A millimeter is about .039+", Correct?
25 microns is about .001, correct?
Then what's a mil.? And how thick is a mil?
I need to order 1 mil. vinyl and i'd like to know.
TIA, Mike
