Hey, that's right Bob..the - wire on the left battery needs to be cut
and the switch needs to be a DPDT to switch both segments.
Open the one on the left and close the one in the center for 24v.

Alan - that schematic will place a DEAD SHORT across the 2nd 12volt
battery when closed. Check that out; as drawn I think there is a
mistake!!!!
