Matt,
I lost the Championship to him....
Criteria for becoming District Champion as stipulated by the District VP:
1. Live in the District
2. Be a current member in good standing of the NSRCA
3. Compile the points
It is not clear when you have to be a member so I am going to award District
Championship trophies to those that meet the criteria. Which means if you
attended four contests this year as a non-member of the NSRCA but then
enrolled and sent your money in the day before the District Championships...
You, in fact, would be eligible to be awarded the Championship title.
Because at the time of trophy distribution you would be a current member in
good standing.
The D7 Championship points system is set up as follows:
The season is worth 100 points (three scores/contests) and the final contest
(District Championship) is also worth 100 points (one score/contest) and the
champion of each class is the best of 200 possible points. The season (100
points) comes from three contests each normalized by taking the three best
scores and dividing them by 40 (gets the number to be in 100ths) and then by
3 (minimum contest requirement). The District Championship event is only
divided by 40 to get the number to be 100 or less... Thus creating a season
worth 50% of your final score and a Championship event worth 50% of your
score.
For example: If I attend three contests and win all rounds in all three
contests I would receive 33.33 points for each contest
(4,000+4,000+4,000)/40/3=100 or 33.33+33.33+33.33=100, however, if I attend
three contests and finish with scores of 4,000+4,000+3,980 my total score
for the season would be 99.83. Only those that have won four or more rounds
in any given event will be rewarded 33.33 points which means that you can
finish in first place for an event but not be awarded 33.33 points for the
event.

Not sure how the program works in your District, so I am confused. Do you
mean you lost the District Championship to the fellow, or did you just lose
the contest? Are the contest and the whole year's Championship the same
thing?
For example: In D3, NSRCA members accrue Championship points from every
contest they enter. The top five contests are counted, each person's points
are tallied and the person with the most points at the end of the year wins
the class for that year
