this was a tough economic year and attendance was down at all the Nats big draw events. yes, pattern is a big draw event and requires substantial coordination. I'm sure Nats attendance will improve next year from shear economics as well as all of our improved outlook on supporting newbies.
Ever since I joined this list I have felt that our collective outlook on attracting people, supporting them, and refining our rules and practices to keep the hobby growing have steadily paid off. Nothing organic ever grows in a straight line, but we are growing in my opinion.
I too was astounded at the IMAC article. It really appears that the IMAC event this year was below critical mass. This may really hurt attendance in 04 if they don't do some major promotion. I can't imagine the horror of, after practicing hard to prepare for a Nats, pilots hearing judges asking their scribes for scores.
We must do everything possible to make local and Nats as much fun as possible so that we become a magnet to as many as possible.

  Hi All,

Have you read the write up by Eric and Ed regarding the Pattern and IMAC nats results and event running in general? I really enjoyed reading Eric's article. When I read the IMAC article I thought, "Ed has a lot of courage to describe the event the way he did." It once again made me think of how lucky we are to have dedicated individuals running our Nationals & NSRCA. Lots of times we start threads about what needs to be changed in pattern. Given some things could be improved; we must overall have a pretty good formula for getting people involved & trained in judging. The articles are definitely worth a thorough read!!

No flame suit, just starting dialog.

  Jim W.
