John
In the Atlanta area most of the clubs have the 3 trip rule, then you
decide. All new comers seem to understand. No one likes to be a moocher.
The other side is that some people will drive for whatever distance to fly
at good pattern practice fields. Me and My pattern practice buddy joined a
club in Munford Ala,80 miles one way just to practice pattern. We stay all
day and fly till the fuel is gone(moneys worth). We do this 3-4 times a
month. It's kinda nice, small club and the sport flyers will go up 3 at a
time. When they come down, we fly a round and they watch in awe. They fly
and we refuel. They come down ,we go again. We have the sky to ourselves.I
burned 1.5 gals. last Saturday and was tired when the day was over.
I understand from Troy N and Bryan Kennedy, have found another field at
Stone Mountain Ga that looks good for practice. That is 40 miles for me.
There is another good practice field in Griffin Ga.This is 60 miles for
me.The way we are treated is great by the clubs because we bring a lot of
info and experience with planes and engines. I have never been told -could
not fly as a guest. I also don't overdo my welcome either.
So you see we travel to the fields for different reasons.
