After run Oil

Right on Dean, the pressure on cam lobes and followers is the highest in an
engine. It only takes a minute or so without lube to waste the surface.

The EP (extreme pressure) material of choice in automotive lubes, including
the synthetics, is zinc-dithiophosphate. This stuff protects the cam /
followers and is depleted as it works, a good reason to change oil. As with moly
compounds, it leaves ash as it goes through the combustion chamber, not good for
glow plugs. The good news is that the pressures are low enough in our model
engines to negate the need for EP agents. (But not oil!)

I prefer Klotz TechniPlate for assembly and new engine pre-lube. Definitely
remove the cam cover and fill 'er up. The DZ has oil holes in the followers
that help maintain sufficient lube to the cam in normal use. The last batches of
DZ's have been pre-lubed in the crankcase, but I've not found oil in the cam
and rocker areas. Certainly a pre-lube is a good way to protect one's
investment.
