Neither takeoffs nor landings are aerobatic maneuvers (Tom Weedon's
and Evil Eric's not withstanding!) and contribute little to nothing
to the competition. Scored takeoff's and landings are a carryover
from the days when simply getting through the pattern without a
flameout was an accomplishment (remember the touch-and-go in the old
"B" pattern? Anybody want to bring that back?!!).

The reward for a good takeoff is that you get to fly your flight.
The reward for a good landing is that you get to fly the next flight.
Nothing more, nothing less. Anything beyond that should be a matter
of pride.

BTW - There is a safety issue to this. Ever see the caller standing
out on the runway holding the plane for a minute or more because it
won't quit rolling? (gotta get that last point... it could make the
difference between winning or losing!). Eliminate the scored takeoff
and landing and that ridiculous problem completely goes away.

So I say lose the scoring. : )

>the takeoff. This was outlined by the CD at two different contests to score

Wayne, I think you just validated my point (I'm pretty sure that a "3
pt touchdown" isn't a scorable metric).
