Shel,
As long as that doesn't fall off the engine, You should be fine.
It will be a little louder than header/pipe combo.
Most of US competitions except National do not enforce noise level as long
as the engine has a muffler.
Just use the muffler until you have enough to get a header & pipe.
Only thing matter here is that you enjoy flying Pattern!

  HI i'm hopefully going to be able to buy a used ys 1.20 for a couple 1.20
size planes soon.i've seen some 1.20's for sale with stock muffler,no
header/pipe.can these engines be used with success using a stock muffler as
opposed to header/pipe if the planes are not competition bound?i prefer
using a 4st but will have to buy used due to my small budget,thanks in
advance.........shel
