MINTOR

I was planning on using a 17x10 or 12 on the 1.40. Is this too much?

Jim,
I have a few questions,
140 turns APC 16.5 x 12W @ 8350
170 turns APC 17 x 12 @ 8100
both with 15% Cool power?

How rich are the engines running?
I am not sure how the two props are loading when use on a same engine, but
the output figures sound like 140 is running better.

How about fuel consumption of both engines?

Thanks,

Ihncheol Park

Hi Eric, Dean,

I've ran the both the 3M 140 and 170.

The 140 only saw 15% Cool Power and two OSA5 plugs. From the first start in
my drive way it ran as good as you can expect a new engine to run. I ran
two tanks using idle, mid, and W.O.T. Then, took to flying it. After a few
flights, engine was tached at 8350 with the apc 16.5 x 12W (with header cut
1.0").

The 170 saw 25% Cool Power from the start, with 1 OSA5 and 1 OSF. This
weekend, I switched to 15% Cool Power and two OSA5 plugs. I needed to
readjust the high and low end. High end was about 5/8 turn leaner. After a
few flights, it was turning the 17 x 12 apc at 8100. At this ground
setting, the uplines did not show any signs of sagging. Maneuvers like the
top hat w/ ¾ up, or the figure 9 with 3/2 can be as tall as you like -
really cruising over the top. Also, header is cut 1.0" shorter than stock.

What I noticed this weekend using the 15% fuel, which was not as prevalent
with the 25% fuel, is that when landing, I needed to lower the idle trim.
At launch, idle was 1900-2000. All the ground running and throttling would
always come down and hit the idle speed. However, after the full flight, I
needed to lower the trim or it would want to float on by.

Hi Eric,

Dean here ... The 140 finds K&B 1-L plugs too hot, the "F"s have got to be
even moreso!

I found the same issue with needing a few minutes of running to loosen-up
adequately in order to be able to run at W.O.T.

It helps to fatten the mid-range with the idle mixture screw.

You will find it has a tremendous amount of authority over the mid-range
mixture, and can easily over-lean the engine there.

Dean
