Off the subject - pine wood derby

This is why we started the "dad's" race. It allows the dad's (and a few mom's) to build there OWN cars and race against the other dad's. We have modified rules (very few restrictions), and it's a blast. It allows us to get our need to build the perfect car out of our system without having to touch the kids car. Also, it let's us both work together. He can watch me work on my car, and try to do the same things.

We've also found the kids like to see the dad's race each other...and get just as excited for us as they do for their own car.

It's cool, patternpaul,
My kid is building his now too. Balancing keeping my mouth (and hands)
still vs. offering "constructive criticism" is possibly the HARDEST thing
I have ever done in my shop. But having him in there, working, with me is
worth a ton.

It was a kid thing and I was a kid at the time I raced these cars. I am
now 32, but remember racing them. In fact I still have an official Cub
Scout Pine Wood Derby Car kit in the shop. I also helped my cousins race
when they were in the Cub Scouts.
