Hey Paul,
I'm a huge advocate for "low" heat...but don't be afraid to use "enough"
heat. Balsa is an exceptional insulator (it's heavily used on refrigeration
ships) so you can use reasonable heat without worrying about the foam. Just
don't crank the heat to high and hold it in one spot too long or you can get
a dip. But moderate heat is more than acceptable, and even high heat on
occasion if needed as long as it's not stationary.
I've been covering foam wings with Monokote for a long time and never melted
the foam.

Does anyone out there have any experience using EconoKote for foam core
wings? My wing cores are honeycombed and I am having trouble with Monokote.
The MonoKote especially the white is not adhering well to the balsa even
though the surface has been cleaned thoroughly with compressed air and a
tack rag. Your advice and experience will be appreciated.
