Pipe coupler

Have you given any consideration to the torsional forces on the silicone
joiner? i.e. if the engine is rotating a certain amount and the pipe
isn't, then the joiner (being the weakest link) has to absorb that
force. So, it may not be just exhaust pressure that's causing it to
blow but a combination of pressure, heat and twisting.
I found that inserting a short length of ali pipe (offcut from tuning
the header, about 1/2" long) in the middle of the joiner between the
header and the pipe, reduces the stress by spreading the twist over a
longer length. You can guess what happened the one time I needed a
shorter pipe length & didn't do that!!
Hope this helps

Hi Jim,
These silicone couplers do not tolerate gaps over 1/4" between the
header and pipe very well.
McMaster Carr sells Teflon and silicon material. I ordered 2' of
"surgical grade" silicone, and 2' of red silicone tubing. The surgical
seems to work really well. However, each one will break quickly if you
exceed a 1/4" or so gap between the header and pipe. The closer you get
them, the better for coupler life. Jim
Okay guys,40 flts and the coupler(blue)- blew a hole.I am running a
greve
pipe and webra 145. What will hold up better than this.
