OS Twin plug head

I researched Mintor quite a bit before I decided to go the easy route and
buy a Webra Aero X. The main problem is the bank transfer. First, I needed
to have an account with B of A, which I do not. Second, the flat fee for a
bank transfer is $45.00. So that head will cost you over $100, and your
bank needs to be able to handle the wire transfer to Italy. Not all banks
do that, and B of A would not even discuss the matter until I had an account
with them. Forget trying to pay via postal money order. The postal money
order requires up to ten weeks to process in a batch, and the recipient must
still exchange U.S. dollars for Euros, which costs extra money. So by the
time the money order is received, the exchange rate will have changed, and
it is no less expensive after currency is exchanged.
So there is the problem. Decent looking product and priced well, but
difficult and expensive to pay for. There is a business opportunity for
somebody in the US. Cut a deal for twenty engines from Mintor, pay the
$45.00 transfer fee once, and then sell the engines in the US for a profit.
Or, a bunch of people on this list buy them together, and then distribute
them. (not me). Another option might be to arrange for a TOC contestant to
bring engines and parts for sell for US dollars.
This was a learning experience for me. It turns out that transfering money
to foreign lands is not trivial and not worth doing for small quantities or
small price items. BTW, Piedmont Models is doing the pattern community a
great favor for stocking the Webra Aero X.

The reply from Mintor manufacture regarding my interest in fitting a dual
plug head to an OS140 rx:
Maybe Tony at Radio South or someone else can check on getting these in a
bulk shipment and reselling.
Might interfere with their relationship with OS though. Dont know, but
maybe possible.
.
I have not done the dollar conversion for this today, but I expect it will
be worth the money if you are having difficulty with an OS, or simply want a
lower RPM available to you.
Thought a few of you might want to see this so here it is

Dear Mr. Williams
The 3M 140 head is compatible with OS head.
You can order it directly to me, its price is 60 EUR including all
transports charges.
For the payment you can send me an international transfer bank before the
shipping. If you are interest I will send you the bank reference. The
shipping time with air post is about a week. I will send you immediately
the
head when I will receive the payment.

I have three of the 3 mintors head on my YS 140 RX, it does lower the
idle and make them smoother, the link is http://www.mintor3m.it/Index.htm
just send him an e-mail.
There is actually two Japanese dual plug that I know of none from OS to
my knowledge, the link is www.hobbynet.com I used a translator available on
the web (free) Bellwood is the company producing them they seem to do high
end product out of aluminium and carbon fiber, the head number are 150142
for the green one and the is one larger non anodized number 150141, for the
green one there is also the option for a additional piece (call sub head
sink)that can be bolted in the center. green 13000 yen (with sub) and the
other one is 9800 yen......I don't have either of these two.
Daniel D.
Mike,
How does one purchase either of these heads?

Hi all,
The green Japanese twin plug head is a bolt on option that even has
another heat sink piece. Didn't have too much luck with the extra piece, the
engine was hard to warm up and would sometimes die before take off. Removing
the second piece solved that. The idle was incredibly low at around 1300,
and transition was the smoothest of any OS I have seen yet. This particular
engine also used an exhaust valve on the stinger, and in conjunction with
the head, made for the smoothest OS I have seen to date.
it's worth noting that the green japanese head is bigger, and is hell
on chin cowls with hyde mounts =P
The 3M purple head from Italy is also supposedly the same bolt
pattern as the OS, although I haven't had any personal experience with
these. If it works the same as the green one from Japan, this could be a
good investment.
I understand the 3M Mintor engine it was made for is a real work of
art, and I may try to obtain one of these myself soon.
