Flying Site Background

Buddy,
I got a 100 year lease on a closed land fill up here in south east Michigan
for the Sumpter Hilltoppers Flying Club. Nothing can be done with the land
for at least 100 years. Afterwards, the land can be sold. At present, they
are pumping out methane gas from the land fill and running 6 large diesel
generators which put out 8 million watts of power that is sold to the local
power company. The only absolute stipulation is that we do no digging on the
hill. It is about 300 acres in size. It took a few years to get the top
level enough to build a runway. Now it's getting to be a very popular place
to fly. I believe your problem is with the city. It took us 4 years of
negotiation before we even had permission to start work. We needed
permission from the Township and from the land fill owners, Waste
Management.
Keep the faith,
Tom Weedon

Anyone have background Info. that they may want to share?
Our local club field is located on a closed garbage dump and we have a
lease from the City which in the past has been a two year lease. We are
currently trying to have the City extend the lease to ten or more years but
have not been successful in the past in getting this done. This landfill has
been closed for ten or more years and is monitored by the government and
cannot be used by the city to build on for forty years. We are looking for
information and possabilities from others who may have been successful in
obtaining long term leases on such sites and may be willing to share
information how they did it or information that we can furnish to the City
of how this was accomplished in other areas. Any help will be appreciated
  Buddy Brammer
