Art, I know you sent a notification that the CD's for this year's contests had generally agreed to scrap the rest of the contests, but I hope a little more thought might be worth the effort. I suggest the CD's and you make a strong suggestion and request to all the pattern guys to let you know if they are comfortable with attending the 3 remaining contest dates. If the ones that are willing to participate, should be allowed to log into the contest page and sign up for those contests. That is one way to take the poll. I know there are some that have already indicated that they feel it is too risky for them to participate and that is the wise thing for them to do. If there are
<em><strong>not</strong></em> enough pilots that sign up for the contest, then, naturally that contest should not be held. I am personally in the dangerous age bracket (80) but I am very comfortable going to an outside event with all the precautions taken to keep everybody safe (as safe as anyone can be anywhere, and doing anything) and enjoying what we all enjoy so much. I realize that the contest venues might be under the control of some local government body and that might be the final word on holding a gathering...even though it might be considered a small one.

Fellow D-8 pilots. This morning I hosted a Zoom meeting with the designated CD's for this season's contests. This is a very difficult year in the hobby, not only for the NSRCA community but other SIGs as well. In addition to Pattern other disciplines have cancelled their NATS. Other NSRCA districts are reporting difficulties in offering contests.

D-8 has a total of 54 pilots registered with NSRCA. Based on registrations from 2019 a little less than 25 pilots were active. As you know, a survey was sent to D-8 pilots about a week ago. 13 responses were received and among those 5 pilots supported holding the remaining contests.

After considerable discussion our CD group agreed that we should not pursue further contests at present. This includes the Fun Fly at Becks Field. Until we see a steady decline in Covid-19 related fatalities and new infections, and we don't have an FDA approved treatment, we believed that we should not organize any contests that could entice people to possibly jeopardize their own safety and that of others. The CD's will regroup in another month to assess our options.
