Hi Art
I think most of us old guys want to be prudent and protect each other. I think contests this year with present conditions should
not take place. There are many solid reasons for not having contests some of those reasons have been expressed in this thread.
There is too much effort required to prepare for a contest just to have it spoiled by low attendance.

Because there is no vaccine traveling is the polar opposite activity if we wanted to protect each other.

Art I enjoyed the Zoom meeting it felt good to be connected again.

I look forward to the day when a vaccine puts thing back the way it was when I could put may arms around a friend and say good to see you.
Paul

Based on what I’m reading in this message thread, sounds like contests for this year are most likely not going to occur. Even if one or two might possibly be conducted, sounds like attendance will be very spotty. Think I will practice this year and get things in line for 2021. Maybe if one happens in later summer in Tri Cities I could attend. I totally agree with the concerns regarding hotels and restaurants when traveling.

Thank you Art for keeping everybody in the loop!
While I agree that flying at our reopened fields, keeping at least six feet of social distancing, is safe to do, I would not want to stay at a hotel until a cure and/or vaccine are available. Until then, I believe that we should not have any contests.
Stay healthy,
Sean

Fellow D-8 pilots,

We are arriving at a cross road in this year's contest schedule. Last night I hosted a Zoom meeting with the 2020 CD’s. We reviewed where we stand and what options remain for the rest of the year. Before proceeding with any given direction we felt it essential to get input from all pilots for a collective sense of preferred direction.

Our situation is this:
Three contests have been cancelled: Richland, Beck’s Field and Molalla.
Three contests remain scheduled: Redmond, Richland and Meford.
A one day “judged fun-fly” has been proposed for Saturday, July 18. You may fly the sequence you prefer and more attention will be given to critiquing each of our flights. This would be a “brown bag” event. No food will be provided.

(Note: many clubs around the country and in D-8 are beginning to open their fields and many clubs are encountering new restrictions. Uncertainty hovers across the NSRCA and other Sigs.)

With these facts in mind we need your help in determining the numbers we can expect in any of these events. If you will participate bear in mind that we will encourage all pilots to bring sterilizing wipes and nitrile gloves. We will need to clean the scoring controllers after each hand off.

Please respond to me with your plans by next Friday, 15 May. You are welcome to include any questions that you may have. I’ll compile the information and will reconvene the CD’s. We’ll communicate the results of that meeting as soon as possible.

This is a tough time for our communities and for each of us. We are a valued group of friends and I know that each of us wishes the others continued safety and good health.

Thanks,

Art
