A little more info for all reguarding the Redmond contest.  For most of us, we see things beginning to open up...  not so for the Bend/Redmond area.  No restaurants or motels have opened.
As for the flying site, here are a few of the restrictions... since they have 8 pilot tables, they are limited to 8 flyers at the site at once.  No guests, no spouses,  no camping at the site.  The only camping allowed in the area is at the fairgrounds.  At present, even if we could have the contest, the club would not be allowed to do lunches... and with the restaurants being closed, meals would be slim pickings.
Having said this,  the contest is a little over a month away.  Things could change and allow us to proceed.  We would have to have the registered number of pilots in the mid teens in order to shut the field down for the weekend.
So that is where we sit for now.  We'll just have to wait and see what happens within the next few weeks.

Hi Art,
I don't think the small sign up is necessarily all that might want to attend. I think it is like when a contest is quite a few months away we won't sing up until we are sure we can attend. I suggest to send a note to all the guys that signing up now is not a commitment to attend the contest but to get a number of who might attend when the time comes. I think motels are going to be on their highest commitment for a sanitary and safe room. That is just my opinion.

In a nutshell, conditions in D-8 are fluid as is the case throughout the U.S. We agreed that we need to continue to monitor all the conditions surrounding each of our contests and be prepared to move quickly when we can. Redmond is first. If conditions improve we will proceed to a contest and will target getting an alert out with at least two weeks notice. Pilots will need to be prepared to move quickly. With the small number of pilots everyone will be flying or sitting in a judge’s chair. It is likely that some will be judging pilots in their own class. (An option is that all would fly the Advanced sequence.)

These are lousy times. Each of us is eager to get back to flying and each of us is eager to remain healthy. In this morning’s conversation we were all wrestling with trying to find the best direction. These decisions can’t be made in a vacuum. They involve all D-8 pilots and we would welcome your input on solutions.
