Karl, something I use to do was cut a scaled down top view of a wing panel out of card stock, like the back of a yellow tablet.

Then balance it - root to tip - this span wise balance point is very near the 'Aerodynamic Cord', basically the center of area. Set the CG to about 30% of the AC. 

This method takes into consideration the wing sweep and taper. Extending this point to the root will give you the scale CG point.

The control throws at 8 degrees and 10 degrees are a good start for the aileron and elevator. The CG at 1/3rd back from the leading edge at the fuse is way to far forward for a start. That would make it too tail heavy which would be a challenge.  Try 45% back from the leading edge and it might need to go more than that after some trim flights. Some of the old pattern planes ended up around 50% to 55% from the leading edge.

I friend gave me this nice classic pattern plane.  In really good shape, composite fuse, foam core wings, OS FS-120 surpass that still runs strong.  Anyone familiar with it?  Need to know where to set the CG.  1/3rd back from the leading edge at the fuse?  Good starting point for control throws, 8 degrees on aileron and 10 degrees on elevator?

 

Egad, the smoke from the forest fires here is bad today!  Went out to the field and just turned around to come home, visibility low.
